Virginia High School Student Killed in Traffic Accident

Truck struck car that was stopped following another accident

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the tragic death of Massaponax High School student.

Selena Guzman, 17, was driving her 1997 Nissan Sentra Tuesday when she hit a Nissan Altima from behind in the right turn lane on Salem Church Road several hundred feet south of the intersection with Plank Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

While Guzman’s car and the Nissan Altima were parked in the right turn lane, a Dodge pickup truck approached. About 6:30 p.m., the driver of the pickup tried to avoid hitting Guzman’s car but struck the left rear, pinning Guzman, who was standing outside the car, between both Nissans, according to the sheriff’s office.

Guzman died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and was cooperative with the police.

Authorities ruled out alcohol and speed as factors in the accident.

The crash is being investigated by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team. The investigation is ongoing and will be reviewed with the Commonwealth’s Attorney.
