Vietnam Veterans Memorial Vandalized With Waxy, Red Substance

Someone vandalized the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, covering an individual's name with a waxy, red substance, according to the National Park Service.

The substance, which appeared to be crayon or lipstick, was discovered over one name on the east wall about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Park Service successfully removed the substance with water and a mild detergent/degreaser.

U.S. Park Police are investigating the marking as vandalism, the Park Service said, but it doesn't appear to be connected to any other recent cases of vandalism on the National Mall.

Anyone with information about the vandalism should call Park Police at 202-610-7515.
