Residents Allowed to Stay While High-Rise Apt. Makes Repairs

Fairfax County officials say the trash chutes and fire sprinklers at the new complex do not work

Residents of a luxury high-rise apartment in Vienna, Virginia, will be allowed to stay while the building makes repairs the county has deemed necessary.

Notices from the county were posted at the Adaire Apartments on Boyd Pointe Way Wednesday. Fairfax County officials say the trash chutes and fire sprinklers at the complex do not work, making the building uninhabitable.

An official with the FairfaX County Office of Public Affairs said the repairs had to be completed Thursday. If not, the county will reevaluate the situation.

CORRECTION (Sept. 29, 9:49 a.m. ET): An earlier version of this story said the residents had been told to leave.
