Mailbox marauders, assault with water

There are crime reports, and then there are crime reports from Vienna, Va.

Few municipalities release the kind of clearinghouse of recent criminal activity that the Vienna Police Department does. The town puts out a "Vienna Police Highlights" report every Friday that's a rundown of "various incidents of general interest."

Grand Larceny 12-10247
Italian Gourmet Kitchen
505 Maple Avenue, West
Between July 09 at 7:00 a.m. and July 16 at 7:50 a.m.
A citizen reported that he left his landscaping equipment unsecured in the alley behind the Italian Gourmet Kitchen. When he returned to pick up the equipment it was gone.

This case is being investigated.

Destruction of Property 12-10170
Walgreens
225 Maple Avenue, East
July 13 3:56 p.m.
While on patrol Officer Kiley encountered two juveniles pushing a shopping cart which struck a parked car. Officer Kiley was able to locate the owner of the vehicle who did not wish to pursue charges.

Officer Kiley counseled the juveniles and released them to their parents.

Petit Larceny 12-10255

500 block Nutley Street, SW
July 14 between 2:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
A resident reported that their mailbox had been stolen.

Destruction of Property 12-10224
400 Block Courthouse Road, SW
July 15 1:53 p.m.
A resident reported that her mailbox and the mailbox belonging to her mother had been knocked over.

Shoplifting 12-10261
ABC
436 Maple Avenue, East
July 16 12:21 p.m.
An employee reported that four (4) individuals entered the store. While two (2) of the individuals distracted the employee one of the individuals absconded with a bottle of vodka.
This case is being investigated.

Animal Case 12-10349
1100 block Fairway Drive, NE
July 17 12:00 p.m.
A resident reported that a strong odor was emitting from a neighbors yard and that their yard was unkept.

ACO Barker responded and spoke with the homeowner and found no violations of the law. The homeowner reported she owned two (2) dogs but they stayed mainly indoors. She was unable to provide proof the dogs were licensed but agreed to contact ACO Barker when the information
was located.

Assault 12-10317
Old Courthouse Road and Fairway Drive, NE
July 17 9:05 p.m.
A citizen reported that while walking with his wife, a vehicle drove by and the occupants threw what appeared to be a cup of water at them and yelled obscenities. The citizen was able to record the license plate information but stated did not wish to pursue charges if the individuals apologized.

Officer Tremont was able to locate the individuals who stated they would apologize.
