Onion attacks, laundry theft on the list of crimes VPD deals with

There are crime reports, and then there are crime reports from Vienna, Va.

Few municipalities release the kind of clearinghouse of recent criminal activity that the Vienna Police Department does. The town puts out a "Vienna Police Highlights" report every Friday that's a rundown of "various incidents of general interest."

Between June 11, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. and June 11, 2012 at 12:00 p.m.
A resident reported that for the past year her daughter had been spending money that was to be used to pay the household bills.

Grand Larceny 12-08582
Church Street at Dominion Road, NE
May 26 2:00 p.m.
A citizen came to police headquarters to report that during the Viva Vienna Festival she dropped her iPhone while on an amusement ride. She went back to the area where she dropped the phone and it was gone.

She later received an email from a man stating that he had retrieved the phone from a toilet at a Washington, D.C. airport.

This case is being investigated.

A citizen reported he was assaulted by a co-worker with a tomato and an onion. The assault occurred when he refused to begin work when told to do so by the victim.

He was advised of the process to obtain a warrant.

June 8 12:07 p.m.
A citizen reported that they had received several letters threatening legal action by a former customer.

They were advised it was a civil matter and not a matter for police involvement.

June 08 6:55 p.m.
A resident reported that someone had stolen laundry belonging to him that was in a public
clothes dryer.

Marco Polo Restaurant
245 Maple Avenue, West
June 09 9:15 a.m.
The owner of the restaurant reported that someone had taken a check that was left on a counter.

He told the officer he would place a stop payment on the check.

Suspicious Event 12-08585
Maple Avenue at Courthouse Road, SW
June 09 9:25 p.m.
A citizen reported that while driving in this area another driver made aggressive gestures towards him. The citizen continued driving until the other driver was no longer following him.

Domestic Dispute 12-08620
100 Block Patrick Street, SE
June 10 1:25 p.m.
A resident reported he was having an argument with his sister. The sister had come to the apartment to pick-up a ring that belonged to his mother. The mother had told the daughter she could have the ring.

MPO Shaver spoke with the parties and the matter was resolved between them.
