One man is dead after a car plunged into the Anacostia River near the Sousa Bridge in southeast D.C. Sunday morning.
The man was unresponsive after the car he was in was recovered from the river, News4's Derrick Ward reports.
The man was taken to a hospital, but rescuers were not able to revive him, the Associated Press reported.
It’s unclear how the vehicle went into the river or how many people were inside.
It's also unclear if the vehicle went off the bridge or was on a road running along the river, but Ward reported there is no evidence of damage to the bridge's guardrail.
Roads in the area are closed.
