Va. Woman Charged in Plantation Voucher Fraud

Police have charged a Spotsylvania County woman with selling fraudulent vouchers to Belvedere Plantation.

Thirty-eighty-year-old Shelby Peele faces eight counts of obtaining money by false pretenses.

Spotsylvania County sheriff's Capt. Jeff Pearce tells The Free Lance-Star that victims reported buying the vouchers at a virtual yard sale site on Facebook. The victims learned the vouchers weren't valid when they tried to redeem them at Belvedere.

Pearce says Peele doesn't have any connection to Belvedere Plantation and isn't an employee.

She's being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.

Sheriff Roger Harris says anyone who bought the vouchers should contact Spotsylvania Crime Solvers at 540-582-5822.
