Va., Md. National Guardsmen Headed to Afghanistan

The Army called 72 Virginia and Maryland National Guard soldiers from Fort Belvoir-29th Infantry Division to active duty in Afghanistan.

The Army said the soldiers go active Nov. 1 and will go overseas after training at Camp Atterbury, Ind.
 
The soldiers will be deployed for a year. They will train members of the Afghan Army and national police as part of a NATO-led security mission.
 
The unit was last deployed overseas for a peace-keeping mission in Kosovo from August 2006 to November 2007.
