Va. Woman Faces March Sentencing in Rival's Death

A March 12 sentencing is set for a Chesterfield County woman convicted of voluntary manslaughter in the death of a pregnant rival.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that 29-year-old Kayla C. Armstrong pleaded no contest to the charge last Friday in Henrico County Circuit Court.

Armstrong also pleaded guilty to separate charges of attempted capital murder and solicitation to commit capital murder. These charges stem from a plot to kill her former boyfriend.

Prosecutors say a longtime rival, 26-year-old Keiona Braxton, was three months pregnant when she was slain on Dec. 31, 2008. She died from more than a dozen blows to the head and more than two dozen knife wounds. She also was shot in the abdomen and arm.
