Va. Tech Shootings Archive Now for Public Viewing

Shootings archive opens to public

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Thousands of documents related to the mass shootings at Virginia Tech in April 2007 is now available to the public via an electronic archive.

One computer terminal in Newman Library on campus and one at the Library of Virginia in Richmond have access to about 7,600 documents and e-mails, beginning Monday.

School officials said once they determine the site can handle a large volume of traffic, anyone with Internet access will be able to see the records.

The archive was set up under terms of an $11 million court settlement with families to avoid lawsuits over the rampage by student gunman Seung-Hui Cho. Cho killed 32 people, then took his own life.

The families have had private codes since mid-December to access the archive.
