Va. Presidential Race Too Close To Call

Final polls show a near dead-heat

Virgina's 13 electoral votes were expected to play a key role in determining the outcome of the Presidential race, and as the polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday, the state race between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney was too close to call.

Many voters across the state waited in line for hours for the chance to cast a ballot. In some places, volunteers passed around granola bars, bottles of water and slices of pizza to help take the edge off people's hunger.

The final two polls published before the election gave a split decision. An NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll gave President Obama a 48-47 edge, while Rasmussen gave the state to Romney by a 50-48 margin. Both polls were well within their margin of error. The latest Real Clear Politics poll average gave President Obama a remarkably slim edge of just 0.3 percentage points (48.0-47.7).

Obama carried the Old Dominion by six percentage points over John McCain in 2008, making him the first Democrat to win the state since Lyndon Johnson in 1964.
