The Virginia Department of Transportation is making it easier for drivers to get an E-ZPass transponder to pay tolls in Virginia and 13 other states.
Officials say the recently launched "E-ZPass On-the-Go" program allows customers to get prepaid E-ZPass transponders at various retail locations throughout Virginia.
The first retail partners in the program are AAA Mid-Atlantic, Wegmans and Giant.
The auto club has 13 locations in Virginia that are part of the program, including Fairfax, Richmond, Lynchburg and Fredericksburg. Throughout northern Virginia, Wegmans has six stores that are participating, and Giant recently announced that 20 of its stores will participate in the program.
VDOT says it expects to announce additional retail partners in Central Virginia and Hampton Roads in the fall.
