Authorities in northern Michigan have released the name of a 58-year-old Virginia man who drowned in a lake near Traverse City.
John Braswell of Alexandria drowned Friday while trying to swim between an island in Long Lake and the shore, the Grand Traverse County sheriff's department said.
Braswell had told another swimmer that he couldn't make it and would try to swim back to the island.
A sheriff's department dive team found Braswell in about 50 feet of water between the mainland and the island.
