Va. Death Toll From Sandy Rises to 3

Virginia emergency and health officials say the state's death toll from Superstorm Sandy has risen to three.

The Virginia Department of Health said Tuesday that the medical examiner's office has confirmed an adult drowning to be storm-related. The death occurred in the health department's northern region but officials would not say in which of the five localities in that region the death occurred.

Virginia Department of Emergency Management spokesman Bob Spieldenner said the person previously was considered missing. No other details about the death were available.

Officials had previously confirmed that two traffic fatalities in Richmond were caused by the storm.

The October storm brought tropical-force winds and flooding to the eastern and central part of the state and dumped snow in southwest Virginia and along the higher elevations.
