A Prince William County animal rescue organization is helping care for animals displaced by Hurricane Irma.
The Washington Post reports that the Prince William Humane Society, which opened its first adoption center earlier this year, has taken in 30 dogs and 16 cats from shelters in Florida after Hurricane Irma prompted a significant increase in pets needing care.
The nonprofit organization took custody of the pets as part of an agreement with Utah-based Best Friends Animal Society. The organization will house all of the cats and 10 dogs for adoption, and bring the remaining 20 dogs to the county animal shelter in Bristow, where they will be put up for adoption.
