Some Virginians soon could have a faster commute to D.C.

Virginia Rail Express plans to start a morning express train from Fredericksburg to Union Station.

The train would leave at 5:05 a.m. with stops at Leeland, Brooke, Woodbridge, Alexandria, Crystal City and L'Enfant Plaza and bypassing the Quantico, Rippon, Lorton and Franconia/Springfield stops.

A regular train ride from Fredericksburg to Union Station takes about 90 minutes. This express train will save riders about 20 minutes, and it's expected to open up seats on later trains.

The service is expected to start July 19.
