Underwater Art Exhibit Opens at the Ronald Reagan Building

Exhibit is free and open to the public

An art exhibit depicting life underwater is opening this week at Washington's Ronald Reagan Building, featuring the work of artist Andreas Franke.

Franke's work was inspired by a visit to the sunken Vandenberg ship 100 feet below sea level south of Key West. His images were placed on the hulk of the ship for divers to see. The ship is now an artificial reef.

The Washington exhibit includes 12 pieces that depict scenes of everyday life (except they're underwater). The exhibit opens Monday and will be on view through Friday to mark World Oceans Day. It is free and open to the public.

The exhibit is part of a conference hosted by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.
