USS Barry to Be Moved From Navy Yard

The Navy destroyer docked on the Anacostia River at the Washington Navy Yard is going to be taken away and scrapped.

The USS Barry will be towed away within the next few months, Navy officials said. The ship, which has served as a floating museum for decades, is in poor condition and canโ€™t be salvaged.

It has to be moved before October, when construction begins on the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge. Once that construction begins and the draw bridge is closed, the ship would be land locked.

There are no plans to replace the ship.
