UMD Library Evacuated for Suspicious Package

Package found outside library

Authorities gave the all clear before 5 p.m. Wednesday after the McKeldin Library on the University of Maryland-College Park campus was evacuated due to a suspicious package.

The package was found just outside the main entrance to the library, officials said. A Prince George's County bomb squad was called to the scene and said the package was indeed suspicious, leading to the evacuation at about 1 p.m.

The shoebox-size package was X-rayed and deemed safe. It included a weight  and twine and may have been used to hold down balloons, police said. They do no t believe it was left intentionally.
