A former University of Mary Washington police sergeant was arrested Wednesday after a transgender woman says he sexually assaulted her, The Free Lance-Star reports.
William Somers, 35, was charged with two felony counts of forcible sodomy, Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corrine Geller confirmed.
The victim told The Free Lance-Star the incident happened Saturday on the university's campus. The woman is not a student at the school.
Somers resigned from the police department Monday.
Geller said he is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
