One Shot in Howard County Apartment

A man is in critical condition after being shot in a Howard County apartment on Thanksgiving.

Someone knocked on the door of the apartment in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road in Columbia, Maryland, before 12:30 p.m., and when a woman answered, a masked man opened fire, striking 29-year-old Elijah Walter Jackson several times, Howard County police said.

A Maryland State Police helicopter transported Jackson to Shock Trauma with critical injuries.

Two blocks away, police stopped a vehicle driven by a resident of the apartment and found a passenger, 29-year-old Brandon Leonard Marine, with a minor hand injury. Marine was taken to an area hospital where he was treated an released. Police have not said how he injured his hand.

An earlier report indicated two people were shot.

Police do not have a suspect in the shooting.

They do not believe the shooting was random and said there is no threat to the public.
