A fire broke out on a sport fishing boat and sank just off the coast of Ocean City Saturday afternoon.

Coast Guard officials said the 46-foot “Sea Witch” caught fire just before 3 p.m. Two passengers were rescued by a nearby charter boat.

Shane McGinnis, captain of the “Salty Sons” charter boat, told “The Daily News” smoke was billowing from the burning vessel. McGinnis could barely see people on the back deck as his boat approached.

McGinnis said he and his family were able to pull a man and women onto the charter boat. He said the damaged boat sank when a giant wave hit it as a tow boat was preparing to pull it to shore.

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.
