A car struck an 86-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman in a church driveway in Montgomery County, Maryland, fire officials said.

The crash happened about 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Unitarian Church at 6301 River Road in Bethesda, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service spokesman Pete Piringer tweeted.

A 76-year-old woman was driving a white Lexus toward the exit of the parking lot when she struck the two victims for reasons still under investigation, police said. The victims are in stable condition.

The driver stayed at the scene.

A cane, shoes and a pair of glasses were seen lying on the ground in front of the Lexus after the crash. Crash investigators examined damage to the car's windshield.

According to the church's website, the church was hosting a funeral service for Rev. Bill Murry, a former minister at the church.
