Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Fire are investigating two deaths in an apparent murder-suicide at an assisted-living home.

Authorities received a report of a shooting about 10 a.m. Monday at the Village at Rockville at 9700 Viers Drive in Rockville. The facility was formerly known as the National Lutheran Home.

Responders discovered two unconscious adults at the scene, which they shortly after confirmed as deceased.

Montgomery County police said the two are husband and wife.  According to investigators, the woman, 74-year-old Sandra Ballard, was a resident at the facility.  On Monday morning, according to police, her husband, 80-year-old Albert Ballard, visited her, which is when the fatal shooting take place.

Police said that although initial reports indicated an electrocution, the two deaths occurred by firearm.

The assisted-living home said the next of kin have been contacted.
