2 Dead, 5 Injured in Shootings Around DC

Seven people were shot, killing two, in six separate locations around Washington, D.C. Saturday morning, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

One man was killed when he was shot multiple times in 3500 block of 14th Street NW about 3:30 a.m. Police said the man was unresponsive at the scene with gunshot wounds in his back, and he was later pronounced dead.

Police later identified the man as Edward Roberts Jr., 29.

In a separate shooting, a woman died after she was found in an apartment in the 2300 block of Good Hope Road in Southeast about 3:51 a.m., police said.

The woman has been identified as Anaiona Gaston, 19, of Hyattsville, Maryland, D.C. police said.

Police later arrested Malik Fields, 21, of Southeast Washington. Fields has been charged with second-degree murder while armed, police said.

The first shooting Saturday occurred in the 900 block of Emerson Street in Northwest D.C. A man was shot, but authorities said he was conscious and breathing.

The second shooting occurred in the 5300 block of Georgia Avenue near The Macombo Lounge. A man was shot in the leg, but he was reported as conscious and breathing by authorities.

Two men were also shot along Suitland Parkway in Southeast around 2:35 a.m. There is no word on their conditions. Police closed Suitland Parkway after the Howard Road Southeast Exit southbound and closed northbound at the on ramp to southbound Interstate 295 as part of the investigation.

A fourth man was shot at the 2400 block of Elvans Road in Southeast. Police said he is conscious and breathing.
