Two Arrested in Robbery of Bicyclist

Jacob Gilbertson and Benjamin Yeannakis

Police arrested two suspects in the armed robbery of a bicyclist in Fairfax County Monday night.

Jacob Gilbertson, 23, of 8809 Vernon View Drive, and Benjamin Yeannakis, 23, of 2902 Mosby Street in Alexandria, were charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Around 11:30 p.m. a sedan pulled up next to a 20-year-old man riding a bicycle at Main Street and Gregory Drive when a sedan pulled up next to him, police said.

The driver of the car got out, showed a handgun and demanded cash from the victim while another suspect witnessed the robbery from the passenger side of the car, police said. The victim gave up his cash and the suspects took off.

Officers spotted the sedan and took the two suspects into custody.
