Trump to Take Over Old Post Office Building

60-Year Lease for Luxury Hotel

You may notice a few changes beginning to pop up at a downtown D.C. landmark.

Real estate mogul Donald Trump will get the keys to the Old Post Office Building on Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest. He signed a 60-year-lease with the General Services Administration to build a luxury hotel at the location.

Trump will pay $250,000 a year during the lease. He plans $200 million in upgrades that will preserve most of the exterior.

The 115-year-old building will include a nine-story atrium with a grand lobby and lounge. The hotel will have 271 guest rooms, a ballroom, spa and restaurants.

It is expected to open in 2016.

The Old Post Office Building’s observation tower is 315-feet high and the third tallest building in D.C.
