Three Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide at Knoxville, Maryland Home

An 87-year-old man apparently killed his wife and son before fatally shooting himself in their western Maryland home, authorities said Thursday.

Deputies went to the Knoxville home after Johnie Richard Green called a family member, saying he had shot his wife and son and was about to shoot himself, said Deputy First Class Carly Hose of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Inside a bedroom, authorities found Green's wife, Mary Caroline Green, 86, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, and the body of his 56-year-old son, Mark.

Johnie Green was found dead in the basement of the home.

Mary Caroline Green was flown to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, where she died.

All three family members lived at the house in the 600 block of Valley Road, about 60 miles west of Baltimore.
