Trial Begins for Howard County Man Accused of Killing Wife in 1991

Robert Arnold Jarrett, Jr., arrested after human remains were found at the Elkridge home he had shared with his first wife

The trial of an Elkridge man accused of killing his first wife in 1991 begins this week in Howard County.

Robert Arnold Jarrett, Jr., was arrested last year and charged with first-degree murder after human remains were found at the Elkridge home they had shared.

Jarrett reported his wife missing Jan. 5, 1991, saying she had walked away from their home after an argument. Police say they had long suspected foul play, but lacked the evidence at the time to prove it.

However, last year they received new information and visited the couple's former home at 6050 Claire Drive. Jarrett's current wife, from whom he was estranged, was living there and allowed investigators to search the property.

There, they found the remains of a woman believed to be Christine Jarrett under the floorboards of a backyard shed and buried in concrete.

Robert Jarrett will be tried in Howard County Circuit Court.
