Trees Down, Power Outages in Wake of Winds

Power outages and downed trees followed high winds throughout the D.C. metro area Thursday.

Local utilities reported scattered outages, including about 300 Pepco customers, mostly in Montgomery County. Dominion Power said there were about 600 customers who lost power in Northern Virginia, and BG&E said about 700 customers in Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties were affected. Most power was restored quickly.

Meanwhile, a large tree smashed into the roof of a Silver Spring home Thursday.

No one was injured; the homeowner was not in the house, located in the 800 block of Malibu Drive, when the tree fell. The house is now uninhabitable.
