Train Hits Car After It Gets Stuck on Tracks; Driver Escapes

A train hit an unoccupied car Thursday morning after it got stuck on the tracks near the Howard/Baltimore County line.

The car, a Honda Civic, got stuck on train tracks in Ellicott City shortly after 9:10 a.m., said the Howard County Police Department. Police believe the day's snowy weather may have been a factor.

Police said the driver, 41-year-old Kristine Martinez, was able to get out of the car before it was struck by the train.

Authorities don't plan to issue her a citation, they said.

CSX investigators are headed to the scene.

Old Frederick Road (Route 99) will be closed for an undetermined period of time, police said.
