Tractor-Trailer Overturns on Beltway Ramp

The truck will remain there until after morning rush

A tractor-trailer overturned Tuesday morning on the I-295 off-ramp from the Outer Loop of the Beltway heading from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into Maryland.

The truck will remain there until after rush hour.  Maryland State Highway officials said the top of the trailer began to fall apart as they tried to lift the truck rightside up.  They will try it again after traffic dies down.

For now, vehicles using the 295 off-ramp are getting by in the far right lane; prepare for backups or just take the 210 exit onto South Capitol Street back onto 295.

This was a single-vehicle accident. Sources close to the investigation said it appears the driver drifted off the road.

The driver was not seriously injured and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
