Tractor Trailer Hangs Off Embankment in NE

A tractor trailer driver made a really wrong turn in Northeast D.C.

Half of a tractor trailer truck was hanging off an embankment in Northeast D.C. Tuesday morning, causing traffic delays.

The accident  closed the off ramp from Route 295 onto East Capitol Street in the River Terrace Neighborhood.

Apparently, the driver attempted to turn his vehicle around on Ames Street near Kenilworth in Northeast D.C., backing it into a grassy area on the side of the road.  However, the back of the vehicle slipped down the steep grade of the embankment and dragged the rest of the truck with it.

During the Tuesday morning commute, traffic on Route 295 slowed as rubberneckers ogled the accident.  The closure of the off ramp also caused delays.

A tow truck was working on the off ramp trying to push the vehicle back up the embankment.  Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
