Tornado Touches Down in Southern Maryland

A small tornado touched down in St. Mary's and Calvert counties in Maryland Friday during severe storms that caused tornado watches even in the D.C. metro area.

The tornado was on the ground from 12:23 p.m. to 12:39 p.m., the National Weather Service said. It caused intermittent damage along an 18-mile long, 75-yard wide path. No injuries were reported.

The storms that swept through the area were part of a storm system that had caused significant damage in Illinois.
