A 2-year-old child died after being hit by an SUV on the 6400 block of 85th Ave in New Carrollton Saturday afternoon, according to police.

The driver stayed on the scene of the accident.

Investigators say the toddler, identified as Ethan Tyson Guzman, was playing in the front yard before running into the street.

Guzman was rushed to Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“It’s tragic, it’s very tragic. My heart’s out to the family and to the gentleman in the van. “
“We have notified the crisis team. They are on scene and ready to help the driver and the family --when they come home,” Chief David Rice, New Carrollton Police.

The New Carrollton Police Department's Collision Analysis team is investigating to determine if charges will be filed.
