To Catch a Sheriff Cruiser Thief

A man takes officers on a high-speed chase after stealing police car

It was a high-speed chase for police, and not only were they after a suspect, but one of their own cars.

Police said a sheriff’s deputy was trying to serve a warrant in the 15500 block of Brinton Way in Brandywine, Md., Sunday afternoon when the suspect jumped into the cruiser and sped off.

St. Mary’s Today reported that troopers identified the stolen cruiser on U.S. Rt. 301 in the Faulkner area. Officers tried to stop to vehicle, but the suspect never pulled over, eventually speeding up to 120 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.

After more than five miles, the chase ended at the Harry Nice Memorial Bridge toll plaza. The suspect encountered traffic and hit the rear of a vehicle, which caused a five-vehicle accident.

The suspect tried to flee on foot but officers were able to catch him.
