Washington County officials say a Hagerstown-based producer of paper products is planning an expansion that promises 120 new jobs.
County commissioners on Tuesday approved a $300,000 conditional loan to help National Golden Tissue buy a vacant commercial building. The loan would convert to a grant if the company adds 120 jobs to the 70 it currently provides.
The state is providing a $1 million community block grant to assist in the $13 million acquisition, renovation and installation of two new production lines.
National Golden Tissue, a 6-year-old company, buys paper in bulk and cuts it into paper towels, napkins and facial and toilet tissue for consumer and commercial use.
The county says the company no longer plans to buy a shuttered paper-making plant in Hagerstown city to expand into paper manufacturing.
