$250 Ticket for Not Using Crosswalk at Dunn Loring Metro

Crosswalk enforcement aimed at preventing pedestrian accidents

Fairfax County police are cracking down on pedestrians who don't use a crosswalk near the Dunn Loring Metrorail station in Vienna, Va.

Construction at Gallows Road has taken away a sidewalk near the metro stop. Pedestrians are supposed to use a marked crosswalk to get around the construction zone, but many people are walking in the travel lanes instead or crossing in the middle of the street. That's against the law and unsafe, police said.

Last week, police issued 361 written warnings. Starting Monday, violators will get a ticket, which could result in a $250 fine.

Two pedestrians were hit by cars in that area in the past five months.

The construction project could take up to four years to complete.
