Three Wanted in Mt. Vernon Square Bank Robbery

The FBI needs the public's help identifying three men wanted in connection with a bank robbery in Northwest Washington Thursday morning.

The robbery was reported just after 10:30 a.m. at the Colombo Bank in the 1300 block of 9th Street NW, when three men passed a note to a bank teller demanding money.

The men stuffed cash into a backpack, which they left behind at a nearby gas station when a dye pack exploded.

The gas station owner called police when he heard two large bangs.

"I called 911 because I thought there was a fire," he said.

The dye pack left behind telling red paint all over the backpack and the spot in which it was dropped. The suspects left in a car they had parked in the gas station.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
