Southeast Neighbors Shaken Up Following String of Shootings

D.C. police say four people were shot in two separate incidents in Southeast Thursday night.

Two victims were found in the 2500 block of Savannah Street SE around 6 p.m. A third shooting victim was dropped off an area hospital.

Another shooting was reported about an hour later in the 2600 block of Bowen Road SE.

All four victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police haven't released motive or suspect information in either incident.

Chelli West was walking her 4-year-old son home near the site of the Savannah Street shooting as detectives investigated the scene.

"I just want to get in the house and be safe," West said. "It's stressful. [My son] sees this almost every day."

Less than 24 hours prior to the shootings, a 17-year-old boy was killed in the 3100 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE after leaving a high school basketball game. A girl he was with was shot in the hand and is expected to make a full recovery.

"I just wish something would be done about it," West said. "Not only are we raising little kids here, it's not safe for older people either. I'm wondering about our youth... why does everything have to result in violence?"
