Three film festivals are bringing culture and perspectives from around the world to D.C. this October.
The Washington West Film Festival begins Wednesday at the Hamilton Hotel in the Capitol. The festival features Hollywood studio releases as well as films by independent directors; each was chosen, organizers said, to highlight stories that can change the world.
All of the proceeds go to charities that support programs to end disease, hunger, and displacement.

The Utopian Film Festival opens on Saturday in Greenbelt, Maryland. The festival features local cult film, "Led Zepplin Played Here" by Jeff Kurlik, who will be part of a retrospective that also includes his "Heavy Metal Parking Lot." The Middleburg Film Festival will run from Oct. 30 until Nov. 2 at the Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Virginia. The festival features four days of films followed by Q&A sessions, as well as fine wine with filmmakers and actors, panel discussions, and farm-to-table dinners.
