Four days after wet, heavy snow made a mess of Wednesday evening's night, thousands of people in and around D.C. are still without power.
As of 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dominion Virginia reported 421 customers without power in Northern Virginia. Dominion's numbers have been fluctuating between 100 and 700 today.
BG&E has restored power to almost everyone in their area, with only 65 people still lacking power in Anne Arundel, Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
But most of the area's outages are for Pepco customers -- 6,800 -- and most of those are in Montgomery County. About 210,000 customers in all lost power as a result of Wednesday's storm.
Crews are working around the clock to restore power to all customers, Pepco said. The utility company has contracted about 200 people to assist in recovery from this week's storm and had a total of about 1,200 at work Friday night.
In regard to complaints that customers can't get through to Pepco, President Thomas Graham said they've had an estimated five times as many people answering phones as usual, as well as mutual assistance call centers in Alabama and Florida, but still haven't been able to handle the volume of calls.
"We received in excess of 120,000 to 130,000 calls," Graham said. "We can't staff to the level to answer every call."
Pepco encourages customers without power to call 1-877-737-2662 to report outages or get estimate for when power should be restored.
