Thieves Strike at 3 Churches During Services

Parishioners at three churches in Vienna, Va., had their purses and wallets stolen on Sunday while services were under way.

Police said that in each case, the items were left unattended in unlocked rooms inside the churches. Three purses and two wallets were reported stolen.

The churches were: Emmaus Church, Church of the Holy Comforter and Vienna Presbyterian Church.

Investigators said thieves struck at all three churches within a small window of time.  Police have no suspect descriptions, and are not sure if all three incidents are connected.

Churches have become a target for criminals recently.

Just last month, two people were arrested for robbing the Christ is Lord Ministry in Woodbridge, Va., while church was in service.

Police said two people held up four church volunteers at gunpoint and took money that had been collected during the service.

In March, a man vandalized a church in Manassas, Va., by breaking in at night and destroying a plasma TV, discharging fire extinguishers and going to the bathroom in a hallway.
