Thieves Make Off With ATM After Crashing Through Window

Police are searching for three men who crashed into a gas station in Laurel, Maryland, and stole the ATM machine inside early Tuesday morning. It was one of two locations where people attempted to steal an ATM from a public location.

Police were called to the Exxon station on Laurel Fort Meade Road shortly after 4 a.m. on Feb. 14. A clerk and a witness told police that a van backed into the side of the store, breaking the window.

They said two men got out and grabbed the free-standing ATM, placed it in the van and drove off in the direction of Baltimore-Washington Parkway. The clerk and the witness told police that the men did not say anything while they took the ATM.

Police said there were no injuries. The vehicle was described as a white Ford work-style van.

Around 5 a.m., Prince George’s County police were called to Lanham, Maryland, after someone in a white work van tried to wrap a chain around an ATM on the outside of a building and pull it free. They were unsuccessful in moving the ATM but heavily damaged the machine.

Police don’t know if the two incidents are related.
