The Taxpayers Are Coming!

Three-day event scheduled to start Thursday at the D.C. Armory

Organizers for the first-ever Taxpayer March on D.C. say thousands are expected in Washington later this week for a rally in protest of what they say is a nonstop tax-and-spend agenda on Capitol Hill.

And they've made sure to publicize the event to their target audience. Organizers for the event were seen handing out fliers for the event at recent health care town hall meetings in Maryland, according to The Washington Times.

"Those health care town halls put an interesting twist on things," said Sgt. David Schlosser, a Park Police spokesman. "As it stands right now, it's obviously bigger than routine permits where you literally have three people. There should be a pretty good turnout - people are super ramped up for it."

The three-day event is scheduled to start Thursday morning at the D.C. Armory in Southeast Washington and is expected to end Saturday with a march from Freedom Plaza, down Pennsylvania Avenue, to a rally on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.

The National Park Service says it has issued permits for more than 2,000 people for the Freedom Plaza gathering.

Meanwhile, event organizer Brendan Steinhauser of FreedomWorks -- a conservative organization led by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) -- says he expects tens of thousands to attend on Saturday.

Several Republican congressional members are expected to attend, including Armey, who is also scheduled to speak at the event.
