Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority -- Metrorail expects to open at 5 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, closing above ground areas of the system when the snow starts accumulating eight inches or higher. (NBC Washington)

Adoring crowds and television viewers watched Thursday as American-born giant pandas Mei Lan and Tai Shan were loaded onto a special cargo jet for a flight to their new homes in China for breeding. (WTOP)

Sometime between 7 and 7:30, not long after I got home from work, I walked to the CVS on 22nd and M to get some bread, milk, and a SmartTrip card. I was right across the street from the CVS, and I waited for the crosswalk light to tell me to go before I crossed. I had plenty of time left, according to the countdown clock.

An online campaign has started to save the job of an Australian banker who became an Internet sensation after he was caught on live television viewing images of scantily clad supermodel Miranda Kerr on his computer.

The financial Web site "Here is the City News" http://news.hereisthecity.com/ has set up a "Save Dave" page that encourages readers to e-mail the public relations department of Macquarie Bank to save banker David Kiely's job. (MSNBC)
