Metrobus Driver Arrested After Fight

Another Metrobus operator has been arrested on the job, this time accused of fighting with a rider over a fare early Friday, the transit agency said. Vento Mickens, a veteran with more than 23 years at Metro, was charged with simple assault while operating the route 71 bus, said Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato.The fight occurred about 5:30 a.m. with a male customer near Georgia Avenue and Van Buren Street in Northwest D.C. as the bus was headed to Buzzards Point, Asato said. The two were fighting over the rider’s fare, she said. Metro transit police charged Mickens with simple assault; the rider was not arrested, she said. (Washington Examiner)

A study released Friday by The Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project says adults and teenagers are equally likely to have texted while driving. Woman Charged in Husband's Slaying

A Spotsylvania County woman has been charged with murder in connection with her husband's slaying last night. Spotsylvania sheriff's deputies were called to the home at 6900 Lanes Corner Road shortly after 10 p.m. after a woman called 911 saying that she shot her husband in the residence, said Lt. James Bibens of the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office. (Fredericksburg.com)

Students Charged With Threatening Teacher

It was a narrative story, something that read like a movie script, that landed two male students from Parkside Middle School in trouble, a school official said. On Wednesday, police found documents "of a threatening nature toward a teacher at the school," said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok. Prince William schools spokesman Ken Blackstone said there is speculation that one of the characters in the story resembled a teacher at Parkside. He declined to identify the teacher, nor would he say which subject the teacher taught or how long the educator has worked for the school system. (InsideNoVa.com)

Boiling Water Used in Attack

A man has been left badly burned after four people poured scalding water over his back and genitals before barricading him naked in an Indian Head home, Charles County authorities said. The suspects were arrested and charged Monday in the attack, apparently sparked over an unwelcome sexual advance, according to charging documents.“It’s kind of very disturbing what they did,” said Diane Richardson, a spokeswoman for the Charles County Sheriff’s office.
