Middle school sports programs in Fauquier County, Va., are under new management.
Yesterday, the public school system signed an agreement with privately-run sports leagues to take charge of certain middle school sports.
- The Fauquier Youth Football league will run the football and cheerleading programs this fall;
- The Warrenton Youth Sports Club will run the basketball and volleyball programs;
- The Fauquier County Soccer Club will operate the soccer league;
- And the Fauquier Girl's Softball Association will run the girl's softball league next spring.
The agreement allows the clubs to use the names of the middle schools as well as their facilities, along with the school mascots.
The clubs will conduct background checks on league workers and will recommend student athletes have complete medical examinations prior to participation.
