School Bus Drivers Testing Routes in Virginia

Arlington County School bus drivers make sure it's safe for students tomorrow

So how do you know it's safe for more than 9,000 students to ride on a school bus after a record breaking snowfall? You get behind the wheel and practice the drive.

That's what Arlington County School bus drivers have been doing for the past two days. They are practicing their regular routes and have been calling in trouble spots as they see them.

"We’re looking at the neighborhood streets, where the kids are standing, where the sidewalks have been plowed, all of that information," assistant superintendent Clearance Stukes said. "When we’re getting that information we are feeding it back into our staff as well as county staff, so if there is a need we have identified we can go ahead and quickly correct it."

Riding along with one Arlington County bus driver showed a few problem areas, and also showed that the bus driver had to make some slight changes to his regular route to access some roads.

But with more snow looming in the forecast, the final decision for if there will be class will happen Tuesday morning. For now there is a two-hour delay.
