Jordan Williams, a former Connecticut high school basketball star now playing for the University of Maryland, has been charged with assault in his hometown.

Torrington, Conn., police said the 18-year-old Williams, a 6-10 freshman forward, is one of five teenagers arrested for an alleged assault on Aug. 8.

Authorities told The Register Citizen newspaper that Williams turned himself in at the police department Saturday and was charged
with misdemeanor assault and breach of peace. He was released on a promise to appear in Bantam Superior Court on Oct. 5.
Police declined to release other details, saying the warrants are sealed.

Williams did not immediately return a message sent to his Facebook account Monday, and Maryland officials did not immediately
return phone messages.
